About
Cristina Rago

I’m Cristina Rago (they/them), a textile artist, facilitator, and creative practitioner working at the intersection of craft, identity, wellbeing, and community.

My practice is rooted in making as a form of care — for ourselves, for each other, and for the stories we carry.

Through textiles, language, and shared creative experiences, I create spaces where people can slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what matters to them.

I believe creativity is not about perfection or productivity. It’s about presence, process, and permission.

My practice

Textiles have long been a way of holding memory, identity, and resistance. I work primarily with fabric, stitching, and text, using slow, tactile processes to explore themes such as resilience, belonging, queerness, and collective care.

Alongside my personal art practice, I design and facilitate creative workshops for individuals, communities, and organisations. These sessions are intentionally accessible — no prior experience needed — and focus on process over outcome. Participants are invited to make, reflect, and connect in ways that feel supportive rather than performative.

Whether I’m leading a group workshop or working one-to-one, my approach is guided by:

  • inclusion and accessibility

  • emotional safety and consent

  • curiosity over perfection

  • respect for lived experience

Workshops & collaboration

I run artist-led workshops across textiles, hand-stitching, fabric collage, and text-based making. These are offered in a range of settings, from community spaces and cultural organisations to corporate environments seeking more human, reflective approaches to wellbeing and creativity.

I regularly collaborate with:

  • workplaces and teams

  • community organisations

  • cultural and educational spaces

  • agencies and programme partners

Each workshop can be adapted to suit different audiences, themes, and contexts — from wellbeing and connection, to identity, storytelling, and seasonal programming.

Why this work matters to me

As a queer creative, I’m deeply interested in how making can support people navigating change, uncertainty, and complexity — especially in a world that often prioritises speed and output over care and reflection.

I see workshops not just as creative activities, but as shared experiences that build trust, soften boundaries, and remind us we don’t have to do everything alone.

Making together creates space for conversation, empathy, and collective resilience — and that’s something I believe we need more of.
